Laptop wireless network issues?

From what you describe it sounds like the wireless adapter is not working correctly. I'd suggest you contact HP support and tell them that the wireless device in your laptop is not working correctly. If that seems like a waste of time, then go get a wireless adapter that's either a USB type N, or a PC Card type N and see what happens using that card instead of the built in unit.
