Why cut NASA funding? Isn't NASA the future for America?

NASA basically can solve the economic crisis if they were able to find new energy sources on Mars or create life-saving vaccines using space growth technology. Why is there not a huge flood of funding to them? Surely colonizing the moon and mars should be a top priority? You don't fix a problem by cutting funding, you fix it by funding solutions.
