How can I convince my mother to be more environmentally responsible?

We live in New Zealand where we have a household recycling service. I am extremely careful in where I throw my rubbish but it has been constantly occuring to me that she just doesn't care as much. She often throws reciepts into the wastepaper bin and uses A4 (and bigger supermarket advertisments) sized pieces of paper to wrap bones from dinner every night(I personally think this is particularly unnessesary as she could have just left them on her plate and then sc them into the bin). I try to remind her nicely like by telling her about carbon dioxide and air pollution... but all she does is 'rebel' and throw more in the wrong rubbish bin.
